50 Years of Computing @ MSU

MISTIC1950's - 1960's

In the mid 1950s faculty members expressed the need for a computer to do scientific calculations for their research. MSU chose to build its first digital computer based on the design of ILLIAC, University of Illinois’ first computer. Work started in summer 1956 and MISTIC began service in the fall of 1957.
