Computer Center December Maintenance Performed
12/06/2006
On Thursday, December 21, 2006, the MSU Computer Center closed to the public in order for routine maintenance to be performed on the building’s main electrical vaults. Accordingly, all walk-in services in the building were unavailable for the day, including:
• ACNS Business Office
• ACNS Walk-in Help Desk
• Artificial Language Laboratory
• Client Advocacy Office
• Computer Store
• Computer Repair
• Libraries, Computing and Technology Office
• Scoring Office
Most core computing services and basic network access (both on-campus and Internet connectivity) were uninterrupted by this maintenance. However, there were brief outages between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for the following core services:
• afs.msu.edu
• mail.msu.edu
• netid.msu.edu
The majority of ACNS staff convened at Erickson Hall with only key personnel remaining in the Computer Center machine room (powered by a portable generator). The ACNS Phone-in Help Desk was available.
This power shutdown was a continuation of work performed in July, August, and October 2006. Maintenance of the Computer Center electrical systems is required to insure that many computing services continue to reliably serve the MSU community.
