Back to School Shopping at the MSU Computer Store

July 16, 2004

Summer is a busy time at the MSU Computer Store. Besides the normal faculty, staff, and departmental shoppers, a steady stream of students attending Academic Orientation arrive, often with parents in tow, to check out computers to use when their first fall semester begins in August.

MSU Computer StoreMSU requires all undergraduates to come to school equipped with a computer. Students use computers for every aspect of their academic lives, from enrolling for classes, downloading and completing homework assignments, doing online research, applying for financial aid, and paying tuition bills.

Students and parents are free to buy the student computer anywhere, whether a retail outlet, mail-order, or online. In fact, the student computer doesn't even have to be brand new – so long as it can connect to the Internet at Ethernet speeds and can run the software a student needs, such as word processing and other office applications. More information about the MSU Computer Requirement is online at http://msuwired.msu.edu.

At the MSU Computer Store shoppers can check out computers not found at retailers (e.g. Dell, IBM, and Gateway) so the student can try out the keyboard and the pointing device before placing an online order. The Store also carries Apple computers. A variety of software is available at deep educational discounts; for instance, students can buy Microsoft Office 2003 Professional for $60, or a three year license for Norton Anti-virus for $15.

The Computer Store is located on the 3rd floor of the Computer Center along the banks of the Red Cedar next to the Hannah Administration Building. For more information or to order online, please visit http://cstore.msu.edu.
