Safe Computing Education Campaign Rolled Out

Libraries, Computing, and Technology at Michigan State University are rolling out their fall information privacy and security initiative, SecureIT, to help ensure students, faculty, and staff understand their role in safeguarding critical information. The SecureIT project was tasked as a multi-phase plan to educate individuals and departments on the measures they can take to improve overall data security practices. It is designed to raise awareness about the current initiatives surrounding the protection of personal and institutional data. The campaign incorporates several communication tactics and informational sessions focusing on topics of interest to students, faculty, and staff meant to raise security awareness efforts within the MSU community.

Safe computing habits help protect individual privacy, prevent identity theft, and protect computers and files from being damaged or lost. Information on protecting computers from security dangers such as viruses, phishing, spyware, intrusions, and other system vulnerabilities is available at computing.msu.edu/secureIT. Information on file sharing and copyright including legal file sharing alternatives visit computing.msu.edu/secureit/FileSharingLegalAlternatives.

Inquiries about SecureIT may be directed to the ATS Help Desk Call Center staff at (517) 432-3600 or the ATS Help Desk Service Center staff in room 120 of the MSU Computer Center. The SecureIT project is sponsored by Libraries, Computing, and Technology, lct.msu.edu.
