Really Simple Syndication (RSS)
Explanation
Most likely you have started to see little icons popping up on web pages that say RSS. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is an alternative way for web sites to give their users access to information. With a RSS feed and a special reader program you can look at the information provided on a web site without actually going to it.
In the RSS reader you subscribe to numerous feeds that are available on the World Wide Web. Every time that the feed has a new entry in it, the reader is notified and you are alerted. You can the look through the list of entries and decide whether or not you want to click on it and go to that article on the feed's web site.
